Solutions House
“Solutions” is our transitional intensive outpatient program IOP for men. It serves as a bridge between intensive treatment and living independently.
Solutions is intended for individuals who are ready to actively manage their recovery and eager to positively affect their own lives and those of others.
This IOP Program offers a comprehensive approach to continued care. This program offers a mix of intensive outpatient treatment and sober living arrangements. It’s designed for men who have finished our Primary Care, completed another treatment program, or who are good candidates for transitional living.
Conveniently located just steps away from our primary program on Carbondale’s Main St, with easy access to shopping and bus lines. Jaywalker provides flexible lengths of stay, with a minimum commitment of 90 days.
Solutions is a Stage 2 recovery model designed to aid clients in implementing a sober lifestyle that mirrors independent living in a safe and supportive environment. Solutions is an intensive outpatient (IOP) level of care that provides ongoing group and individual therapy while clients engage in school, work, or significant volunteer opportunities.
In this model, clients gain proficiency with time and task management, begin to learn to manage money and engage in meaningful service work in their local community. Clients continue to progress in their personal recovery program in addition to addressing ongoing mental health and trauma-related goals.
Clients continue to work on enriching meaningful relationships with their peers at Jaywalker in addition to forming stronger relationships with the greater recovery community. Clients continue their relentless pursuits of joy through outdoor and service-oriented experiences. In addition, the Solution’s Expedition/Man’s Meaning trip is a dedicated weekend each client experiences to help them define the man they want to be in recovery.
Solutions IOP is also heavily focused on service work as we find giving back is an integral part of the recovery process.
Our motto,
“If you wish to find yourself, lose yourself in service to others,”
as adopted from the Gandhi quote, is the foundation of our program. Our clients volunteer regularly with local groups, including Habitat for Humanity, Colorado Animal Rescue, Aspen Homeless Shelter, Volunteer Outdoor Colorado, and many others.
Returning to school or starting a new job can feel daunting in early recovery. The Solutions program helps Jaywalkers create personalized plans for employment or education as a key part of rebuilding sober lives. Once settled into the program, clients are encouraged to engage with the local community—either through part-time work or school.
Using relational and occupational assessments, counselors guide each individual’s unique planning process. Whether resuming a career or entering the workforce for the first time, every client receives tailored direction toward the next step in independent living. Ongoing peer and staff support remains essential as clients take on new responsibilities, and those who begin work or school continue to receive guidance through a modified schedule. This support during transition is invaluable.
Each week the Solutions schedule is filled with opportunities for the client to choose activities that provide sober fun, wellness, and personal growth. In Solutions you will continue to find your challenge on the river fishing for trout, participating in a yoga class, or riding a mountain bike on a single-track trail. Your success will be found scaling a granite cliff on Independence Pass, rafting down class IV water on the Arkansas River, or skiing/snowboarding at one of the four Aspen Mountains. The opportunities and challenges will engage you and they will transform you.
Addiction is a disease of isolation. Service provides a vital connection to others and the reassurance that life has meaning and purpose. Service to others is a key component of the Solutions recovery model. Men in this program engage in a variety of service opportunities both locally and nationwide. It provides them an experience of venturing outside of themselves and serving as a force for positive change.
They encounter those who are less fortunate in their life circumstances, those who have persevered through adversity, yet have managed to keep their dignity and integrity intact. Service to others is witnessing the heartfelt gratitude of people who have been staggered by unfortunate circumstances of life and are seeking to stand tall again. It is in this common quest that fellowship comes to fruition and the problems at hand find Solution.
The Solutions Program is grounded in 12-Step Recovery and Relapse Protection. The men are required to attend 12-step meetings and work with a sponsor on the 12-Steps. We have a Big Book Study and have continued to reference the “Integrating Dialectical Behavior Therapy with the 12-Steps.” In the Solutions program, we emphasize “Relapse Protection.” We rely heavily on using the Socratic Method to engage the men in finding their answers in recovery. We support the men to go deeper in their process as we look at the family legacy, and messages the men have assimilated which impacts their present life. We examine shame screens, defenses, and current triggers to inform our treatment planning. Second Stage Recovery Assignments encourage the men to look at issues such as integrity, humility, and self-actualization, as well as a career narrative.
The Greenwood System™ is the most comprehensive career counseling process and report available to counselors today. The GS120™ assessment has been in development for over 35 years and includes a short battery of assessments – Myers-Briggs, GRIT, Holland, etc. to help clients match their abilities, interest, values, and personality to their best-fit career options and create a list of top 10 career paths. The client will then work with our Executive/Life Skills Coach to review results, create a personal purpose statement, and a concrete action plan for achieving their goals. What we like about the Greenwood assessment is that it uses the data, walks the client through a process that translates into a concrete Action Plan. It goes beyond just strengths and interests and builds on values and personality to help clients narrow their focus and create a vision for their future on a solid foundation of who they are. It provides a wealth of resources on each career, and is an individualized process based on the results of the assessments.
The biggest benefit of an IOP, especially when compared to inpatient treatment, is the flexibility and freedom that an intensive outpatient program such as Solutions offers. With intensive outpatient treatment, you come to the facility during the day for your various treatment and therapy sessions and then return home to your daily life and responsibilities.
While you may not be living at the facility, with an IOP you have access to many of the same treatments and therapies that those participating in residential treatment have, meaning you can get the treatment you need while still being able to go to work, school, or care for your family.
Intensive outpatient treatment provides a wide variety of therapies including:
At Jaywalker, our intensive outpatient program (Solutions) is a minimum 90-day program that begins once a Jaywalker has completed The Landing. Solutions IOP provides ongoing group and individual therapy while clients engage in school, work, or significant volunteer opportunities.
Our clients who participate in an IOP can expect a weekly schedule consisting of various therapies and treatments including yoga and meditation, as well as life skills sessions and recreational activities.
While both intensive outpatient programs and standard outpatient programs provide flexibility and freedom in that you don’t need to live at the treatment facility to complete the program, there are some key differences between the two including:
Many private insurance providers cover at least some of the cost of intensive outpatient treatment. Many insurance providers are more likely to cover a greater portion of an IOP since intensive outpatient treatment is typically more affordable than residential treatment. The amount of coverage you receive depends largely on your insurance provider and the plan that you have.
At Jaywalker we work with many private insurance companies to help their clients get the treatment they need at a price they can afford. If you want to learn more about what your insurance provider does or does not cover, you can reach out to your insurance representative or you can fill out our insurance verification form. We will look over your policy and let you know what is and isn’t covered before starting treatment.
If you or a loved one is struggling with addiction, Jaywalker’s intensive outpatient program (Solutions) may be the best option for you. Whether you are someone who has attempted other forms of recovery without success, or you are looking to begin your sobriety journey for the first time, we can help.
At Jaywalker, all you need to be is a male, active and healthy enough to participate in various mountain wilderness activities, and willing and able to commit to a minimum of 90 days. If you check all those boxes and want to learn how our intensive outpatient program can help you get on the road to recovery, contact us today.
