Mike K: 3 Year Sober

When an all staff email comes across about one of our many alums that work at Jaywalker, we all pause for hugs, high-fives, and gratitude.  Mike is a crucial part of the men’s experience at Jaywalker Lodge on arrival.  Thank you Mike for all you do!  Here is the endearing email we all received yesterday: Hello All, My dear friend Mike Koschlakijflkasjfiojeoajfdlksj is celebrating 3 years sober today! Mike for the longest time thought today was Cinco de Mayo but did not realize that Cinco de Mayo is in fact May 5th and not May 2nd. Mike does not speak Spanish. Anyways, I wanted to give a big shout out to Mike for role modeling to our men what sobriety can look like and that works. Mike is seen at every meeting on every night, and although that takes away from our time together it allows him to be a…

Trauma Informed Care

Trauma informed care is something we take very seriously at Jaywalker Lodge, and we’re happy to announce that our trauma programing now includes a separate break out group for all clients engaged in our trauma track.  Along with in-depth assessment and individual trauma specific counseling, clients in the trauma program will now be participating in a weekly trauma and grief group session.  Jaywalker Lodge trauma specialist Amy Vespa had this to say about the new offering: “Community has always been at the heart of the Jaywalker philosophy. This group allows for education, healing, and normalization of the trauma resolution process in a peer driven setting.  It fits perfectly within the Jaywalker model and has added a great element to the trauma program”.  At Jaywalker we believe that effective addiction treatment must include support for clients that suffer from unresolved trauma, and we believe this new group enhances our ability to…

Mark M: A Decade Sober

“It was 10 years ago today, that my life changed forever. On 12/18/07 I decided to get sober. It has been the hardest and best thing I’ve ever faced.  So, if you’re reading this I imagine you’ve impacted my life in a great way. I just wanted to thank you for the love and support over the years. This path in life has far exceeded any expectations that I could have ever had. I’m truly humbled by this incredible life that I am fortunate to live and learn from. Thanks everyone.” -Mark M. Mark M. was one of the first people I met when I came to Jaywalker Lodge.  I was nervous and uncertain of how to attain my next 24hours sober.  Mark shook my hand and said,  “lets take a walk.”  We walked around Carbondale, connecting on the life that we wanted and how abstinence was required but not sufficient….

Dr. Craig Farnum

Craig and wife sober living

The entire Jaywalker community would like to congratulate Craig Farnum, College Counselor at Colorado Mountain College, for his newest achievement.  We can now officially address him as Dr. Craig Farnum.  On 4/15/2105 Craig defended his dissertation and was officially awarded a doctoral degree as a Counselor Educator.  Craig’s dissertation demonstrated that using the Leader/Detractor Scale in education would improve a student’s learning and behavior.  His survey and findings proved the success of this instrument.  This Leader/Detractor Scale (L/D Scale) is used for collegiate athletes at St. Michael’s College in Vermont and for all classes taught by Craig’s mentor, Dave Landers, PhD.  Dave, author of I Wish He Had Taught Me To Shave, has been a fan of both Craig and the Jaywalker community for many years.  The L/D scale is used for students, employees, and clients to identify themselves as Leaders, Contributors, Participants, Observers or Detractors. In addition to writing…
