/  Jaywalker   /   Giving is Getting

crmsThe school year is ending for many.  Students at the local boarding school, Colorado Rocky Mountain School, are preparing to travel to their homes all about the country. Some will be returning in the fall, others will be venturing off to colleges. All of them will be negotiating new minefields of drug and alcohol temptations and potential pitfalls.  CRMS is a progressive boarding school that works diligently at drug and alcohol education and prevention. This past month more than ten Jaywalker Lodge clients have volunteered at the school by speaking to students of all levels of their experience, strength and hope regarding drug and alcohol addiction and recovery.  For some of our men this is their first experience of sharing what they have learned from their journeys through addiction into recovery. Here are some remarks from the lead counselor of the CRMS staff, Ashley Smith, who has long had a good working relationship with Jaywalker Lodge, “Jaywalkers were amazing today. Very articulate and they took extra time to meet with a kiddo after. I think it made a real impact on this boy. They even offered to meet with him again if the student wanted to. I am really impressed by the Jaywalker guys and am so appreciative that they are willing to come here.” Jaywalker men have done the same with students at Basalt Middle School and Yampah Mountain High School in Glenwood Springs. One more example of how the men of Jaywalker Lodge learn giving is getting and the greater community of of the Roaring Fork Valley feels the positive impact.
