Jaywalker Lodge Staff
Dan graduated from the Hazelden Counselor Training Program in 1993. He and his wife Lois, also a graduate of Hazelden, subsequently moved to Ireland in 1994 and aided in establishing a small, 12 step based treatment center in rural County Mayo. Hope House in Foxford, County Mayo, continues to thrive and both Dan and Lois remain in contact with the gracious people they met while there. Lois and Dan returned the the USA in 1995 and Dan was hired on the Extended Care Program at Hazelden where he remained for 7 years. His primary focus was working with chronic relapsers who struggled with accepting and maintaining the reality of step 1 powerlessness. Dan served as both clinician and acting supervisor of that unit during his tenure there. In the last 3 years Dan has worked on the Silkworth Primary Care men’s program at Hazelden. This has afforded Dan the opportunity to introduce to clients the 12 step program of recovery and provide them with hope that the disease from which they suffer has a tried and true solution. Personally, Dan has over 15 years in recovery from both drug and nicotine addiction. He and Lois remain a team and have 2 children, Andrea and Rachel, ages 14 and 8. Dans' personal approach to recovery lies in the "Keep it Simple" slogan familiar to all AA members. Dan has extensive experience as a clinician and has walked the walk of recovery for a number of years. He is always excited about sharing his experience, strength, and hope with the clients of Jaywalker. Since moving to Colorado Dan has taken up kayaking, rock climbing, mountain biking and skiing. He actively participates in all Jaywalker wilderness excursions and finds the mountain based lifestyle a great enhancement to his own recovery.
